The much anticipated adult ruffle robes will be here at the end of the month...our waiting list is getting longer and longer!

I am contemplating adding child sized ruffle robes to Monogram Chick. Monogrammed robes and wraps for adults among our top selling products however, not so much for kids. I'd love your feedback....what do y'all think about a child's size ruffle robe hitting the MC site? Price would be around $33 monogrammed.

Last week {I think, who knows, the days & weeks are running together} I snapped a quick photo of the massive amounts of paint we'd purchased and told y'all I'd give you an update soon.

I wish I had great before and after pictures to share, but not yet. My house need not look like a construction zone for it's debut. I am super excited to be painting the interior of our house (literally all of it...even the laundry room and it's trim). I can't decide if I love my aqua island (swoon), the new magnetic chalkboard that Dr. Chick framed out on the back of a wall of cabinets that divides our prep area from our eating area in the kitchen or the fact that now all of the ends of my cabinets and the island are framed out with beadboard panels (thanks again to Dr. Chick--who is quite the trim carpenter!).

Pretty sure, we're going on 2 weeks worth of late night painting and cutting, but it is coming together! Tonight we're putting the cabinet doors back on their bases (I can't wait to stop looking at my un-orderly tupperware--which begs for organization: another project for another week.) and I plan to paint the trim in the dining room and kitchen.

Last weekend we called in reinforcements. Kiki, Coco, Parker , my Mom & Dad ventured to VR for paint-a-palooza. Without them I'd still be sanding cabinet doors and they would not be covered in 2 coats of oil based enamel. While here, we ventured into the studio and I snapped a couple pictures of Master P exploring.

My goal for this weekend is to paint the rest of the trim in the main part of the house and get after my laundry room (a lighter shade of aqua than the island!!) i'll be sans the extra hands but think we'll make quick work of it!

This morning, @hLr2013 "favorited" one of my tweets (about Southern Plate's Cafeteria No Bake Peanut Butter Bars...which by the way are delish and I could really take off on a tangent about my days teaching and school lunch but I'll save y'all the read :)).

Baked Banana Oatmeal

It is no secret that when I'm not stitching I love to be in the kitchen. It is cathartic. When I'm stressed, my first choice of places to be is the kitchen. Something about following a recipe and creating something leaves me feeling a little less up-tight. While I wasn't stressed the other morning, I was in the mood for a delicous breakfast. Anytime banana's and oatmeal are involved, it is considered a delicous breakfast in my book.

I came across Kath Eats Real Food. Kath and I share a love for oatmeal. Kath is a WAY BETTER blogger & posts multiple times a day with fantastic photos and delicious looking recipes. One particular recipe caught my eye and I knew I had to try it. Baked Banana Oatmeal. <---Here is the link to the recipe, I won't give it here so as to entice you to comb through Kath's page and find treasures for yourself. I will, however, give a little photo re-cap of my baking of the oatmeal. {I did not decide that this was a blog event until well into the process, so the pics are not step by step}

I decided a little late in the game to document this. The above pic is midway through baking.

I pink, puffy heart our ipad, especially in the kitchen. It is so handy for recipes! I was able to follow Kath's excellent directions very easily thanks to my digital friend.

Towards the end of baking the oatmeal, the recipe says to add a "heaping tablespoon" of brown sugar and then broil. What do y'all think? Is this heaping enough!?

Straight out of the oven, with caramelized sugar on top....thanks to my heaping tablespoon of brown sugar.

I enjoyed the yummy-ness with coffee (of course). A few notes....I only had frozen bananas. They were kinda soft and mushy when trying to layer them on the top and bottom but I think they turned out okay after baking. Also, I used Almond Milk since that is what we keep on hand, and I think that with real milk the taste/texture may have been a bit better. Overall, this was super tasty and something I'll be making again. I did re-heat it for consumption later in the week and definitely think it is better fresh from the oven but was a delicious and easy to grab on my way to the studio.

This past weekend we were in "the 'ham" for Master P's baby dedication service at Kiki & Coco's church. I'm somewhat partial but I think he was the cutest kid there, what do you think?

We all know that there are so many group buying "events" out there. My inbox is full of emails each morning touting all the savings that are meant to be had. Often, if the subject line isn't catching, I hit delete. This morning, when I opened my inbox GroopDealz cought my eye.

I love to find a good deal and share a good deal. If you don't know about GroopDealz, they are a site similar to Groupon however, they promote handmade (much like etsy...just in Groupon format).

I have a ruffle camera strap on my Rebel and get so many questions/compliments about it. Mine was an etsy purchase about 2 years ago from a shop called EclecticWhatNot. Today, GroopDealz has ruffled camera straps at a great savings {$20 for a $33 value}! These are super cute and such a great deal! What a great opportunity to add a little "ta-da" to your camera strap!

Lakeland Trunk Show Tomorrow!

My bags are packed, all the samples are stitched and I'm on the road to my parent's house in Lakeland, Florida for Monogram Chick's {somewhat} Annual Trunk Show. Wipeout

So the hubs and I are laughing our heads off tonight. We've never really watched abc's Wipe Out and at the expense of those poor contestants we're laughing until our bellies hurt. Rarely do we stray outside of Dr. Chick's trifecta of stations (history, discovery, tlc) however, we find ourselves laughing out loud at not only the contestants but also the commentary of the "hosts" as each contestant found themselves plunging into muddy waters and flying over padded bars in an effort to win the green.

I think we all need a little mindless entertainment every once in awhile, don't you? What is your favorite show or your go-to for mindless entertainment?

{As an aside...this is not my favorite show. Not even close. One of my new favorites is Modern Family; thanks to Kiki & Coco. While with them this past weekend we watched 4 episodes...in a row. At one point I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my face. Definitely a show I recommend. And then there is one of my old favorites: The Good Wife.}

gulley washer

Dr. Chick had the sweetest neighbor while he was in dental school. Edith was about 75 at the time and very active. She mowed her own lawn, tended to her tomatoes, went to Home Depot and the grocery store weekly as well as had her hair done each Thursday.
It is tradition to spend the July 4th week in Hilton Head Island with Dr. Chick's family. Edith would collect his mail and keep an eye on things while he was away. One particular spring we had painstakingly filled his yard (by shovel and wheelbarrow) with 4 dump truck loads of dirt and then sodded the new yard. Edith kept track of the rain that July 4th week. One day she had written "Gulley Washer!" next her measurement in inches of rain. I'd never heard of a gulley washer and thought it was the cutest thing ever. Since then, we always call big rain storms gulley washers. Edith is the best and now looks after Dr. Chick's younger sister in the same townhouse.

I think we're in for a Gulley Washer this afternoon in the West Georgia Area.

Good thing I've got my new monogrammed umbrella! Won't I be cute with my wellies and preppy little rain deflector?!

Jimmy John's Wisdom

Wow, 2 references to Jimmy Johns in 2 days. Pathetic? Perhaps.
While their sandwiches rock and there really is no other reason to venture in to your local sandwich shop, their wall signs are entertaining. We've eaten at the same location (which I hate to admit is about 45 miles from our house and anytime we are "in Atlanta" we make every effort to snag a sandwich) dozens of times but we've never noticed this sign.

For those of you that are Kenny Chesney fans (as a side note: he is not my fave but he does have a few good songs; I like songs that tell stories) you may know this song:

The Life

The other night whilst feasting on our Slim 1 & #2 easy on the mayo we were mezmeriezed by the sign on the wall and I knew that I had to post both it (as well as a legible version on the story) and KC's song taken from this story. Seriously chickadees, they both give me chill bumps.

How Much is Enough:

The American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “only a little while.”

The American then asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish?

The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.

Eventually, you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years.”

“But what then?”

The American laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions?” asked the fisherman, “Then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evening, sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos!”

I mentioned last week one of my new found blog addictions...Today's Letters. In no attempt to rip Em off (because she is the best letter writer), I thought I'd give it a go and post my own, Monogram Chick Today's Letter.

Dear Dr. Chick: Thank you for making me laugh everyday. I often ask you if I can put your witty comments on Facebook and you tell me no. In fact, three different times I nagged you last night and all three times you told me no. It's a shame that so many miss out on your quick wit, sure glad I don't!

It seems that lately we've had a fixation with drink-ware. These water bottles are no exception to our fixation. Read this, y'all! I filled this water bottle (of course mine has the monogram chick logo plastered on it) with water and ice around 4:00 one afternoon last week. I was a good girl and drank all of my water but there was still ice in the bottle when we left the studio that evening. The next morning I returned to the studio and it was probably close to 10:00 by the time I had finished my coffee and was ready to start on my water for the day.

Seriously. I tell you no lies. The bottle still had ice in it!! From 4:00 the day before. If you can't love our personalized water bottles because they are so stinkin' cute, you gotta love them because they are so stinkin' functional!

i'm a blog junkie. laundry piles up around me while i pour through the lives of others as written on the internets. it is somewhat cathartic, i think. i am especially excited when i find fabulous new weblogs that speak to my heart. it is funny how God uses the writings of others and their life experiences to teach me and mold me. lately, i have been engrossed in 3 new blogs. the women {and their families}who write these diaries are amazing. simply...amazing. i pray that i am more like them each day; that i would be as faithful to live this life He has given me as they are, praising him for the highs and lows.

Alright chickadees, most of you know that I did my time in the midwest....Iowa to be specific. Iowa City, Iowa to be more specific. The total population of the entire state of Iowa is close to 3 million, the population of the metro area of Atlanta is something like 6 million. (all you fact checkers and number geeks can check my deets) I find it interesting, in light of those statistics, that Flavor Flav choose Clinton, Iowa (yes. yes, you certainly did read that right Flavor Flav & Clinton, Iowa) as home to his newest business endeavor....restaurateur. Guess no one told him that they eat pork and corn in Iowa....

...and there is nothing cuter than a little one toddling around in a monogrammed diaper cover as the warm weather overtakes us. We've added 2 new colors to our seersucker collection of little girl's bloomers. The aqua seersucker bloomers and the brown seersucker bloomers are ah-dorable.

In addition to the warmer temps and cute little baby behinds covered in seersucker, some of my favorite things about spring are (in no particular order): playing ball with Bailey, breaking out the flip flops, hyacinths & tulips, and longer days.

Its no secret that we here at the Monogram Chick studio love our fur baby, Bailey. He has been by our side many a day and night as we feverishly stitch, wrap and ship across the country. It is about time that we do a little something for him. I am so excited that we added pet water bottles! Seriously, pet water bottles. the snow is melting but it is still chilly

Today's high here in the southeast is 52...that is a far cry better than last weeks highs in the 20s! We shoveled the sidewalk at Dr. Chick's office last week with our garden tools. When we finished chipping away the ice and had put salt down I reflected on the joy I felt when we packed that moving truck in Iowa just knowing that I would never have to shovel my walk again....ha.

With all this snow, we've heard all kinds of old wives tales about more snow coming; did you know that if the snow sticks on the ground for more than 3 days you're in for more?!

52 degrees may be mild to some of you mid-western and northern chickadees but my super southern blood still thinks its cold and a coat and scarf are a do-no-leave-home-without. Currently, I'm sporting my monogrammed scarf. Khaki with a brown monogram, worn with my brown down jacket (laugh if you must, I'm ok with that).

What's keeping you warm this winter? Do you know any old wives tales about snow? Or anything else for that matter?!

We are digging out from under the snow and ice, finally. Yesterday we could actually start to see the grass under the icy mess and enjoyed some warmer temps (in the 50s). We had a busy weekend full of shopping...finding all sorts of great things that will soon be added to Monogram Chick!

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when y'all send photos of your Monogram Chick goodies?! This sweet mama with her newborn bebe and her big brother are so precious. Can you believe that she just gave birth, she looks awesome and totally photo ready.

Dr. Chick has been tending the fire {that is our actual fire} since about 3:00 this afternoon as we await the big storm. Schools in our area were called off yesterday morning in anticipation of the winter event. I did my usual Sunday afternoon grocery shopping however, the rest of my town also decided they need to grocery shop. It was Crazy, with a capital C. The buggy corral was empty when I entered. I had to round up my buggy from a sweet lady returning hers from the parking lot. I pink puffy heart the south. Seriously y'all...love it. However, living in ~~the frozen tundra~~ Iowa gives one a little perspective on winter weather and while we've done our due preparations I can't help but wonder if this storm is going to be all they predict.

This is WAY over due. I promised it Friday and didn't deliver. My sincerest apologies however, I'll make it up to you. Pinkie swear. My hot tea in the afternoon or morning coffee isn't quite complete without my Monogrammed Travel Mug. I have to be honest, this is one of my favorite things that is somewhat dependent on the weather. I tend to drink more hot beverages when it is cold and my go-to mug is, of course, my monogrammed mug. It is not secret I am not a morning person. It takes me quite some time to wake up and feel like all is right with the world. Part of my morning routine is coffee. I was elated to find out that Coffeemate brought out Peppermint Mocha Creamer permanently. It made the morning coffee that much tastier knowing that I wasn't just enjoying this minty goodness for the holiday season.

Since we moved back to the South I've started playing tennis again. You remember my post about our big win (and the acquisition of the coveted bag tag). I love these bags to sport my tag...specifically, I'm carrying the black floral backpack with an aqua monogram.

In addition to playing tennis we entertain. All home matches are a chance to ~~show up~~ be hospitable to the other teams by serving them a fabulous meal. One of my favorite court side dips is the Feta Black Bean dip served with Tostitos Scoops.

Serves 30 (This makes a TON of dip and can easily be reduced and still feed a small army)
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
3 (15 ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
3 (15 ounce) cans Shoe Peg corn, drained and rinsed
1 bunch scallions, chopped
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 (8 ounce) block feta cheese, crumbled

Whisk the sugar, vinegar and oil in a large bowl. Add the black beans, corn, scallions, cilantro and cheese and mix well. Chill until serving time. Serve with tortilla chips or corn chips.

Things I'm Loving This Fall

I adore fall. Everything about it: Brisk mornings, leavings falling, college football, my need to keep homemade soup on hand, warm coffee, mint tea, and anything pumpkin. I thought I'd compile a visual list of all the things I'm loving this fall. I'm a share-er, when I find something fabulous I tell all my friends, I phone my sis, I feel that everyone has to love what I've found as much as I do. So in an effort to feed this need to share here ya go chickadees.....

Blogs. Some of my favorite right now are:

Darby {an oldie but goodie, she always has such depth and insight in her posts as well as cute photos of her "Rovers" and great recipes.}

The Idea Room {this is a new one to me and I couldn't be more thrilled to have found such a great site! I can't wait to try the pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and to try some of the Photoshop tutorials Amy includes!}

Shoes. It is no secret I love me some shoes.

The black patent babies came from Target and the animal print are Amazon. Lurve them both!

I don't own these but want to own these.....swoon.

ps-did you know they make Revas for the the chicklets?! seriously? don't know that $95 for a pair of little girl shoes is justifiable....imjustsayin.

Soup. It's just part of fall.

Taco Soup is a classic. You can't go wrong with it's tastiness along with some corn bread. Recipe found in this post.

Shrimp and Corn Chowder. Made this for the first time at the initial hint of cool weather. Even Dr. Chick enjoyed it :).

1 large onion, chopped {I omitted this & subbed onion powder}
1 lb red potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 (14-3/4 oz can) cream-style corn
1 (14-1/2 oz can) fat-free, low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup light cream or fat-free half-and-hslf
1 lb large shrimp, peeled, deveined
2 tbsp. peanut, canola or light olive oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

In a large pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion, and potatoes. Cook until softened. Add corn, broth, light cream, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook until soup is thickened and potatoes are tender. Stir in shrimp. Cooked until pink and cooked through.

I went to Target after leaving the Chick studio last night. I thoroughly enjoyed strolling around with my fountain DC perusing the aisles before heading home to watch Glee.

I always scope the shoe section at Target; last night I scored!

Lately, my go to pair of shoes are these gems (literally).

While in Birmingham last weekend it was all I could do to keep myself from taking home the Black Patent version. On a side note, I was in Birmingham with Kiki for a Click Workshop Photography Class. I cannot say enough about how great the class was! I learned so much. Being a photography junkie and having taken classes in college (pre-digital age), I thought I knew a good bit. I feel like a new woman behind the camera! I highly recommend the Click Workshop if you're in the Birmingham or Atlanta area. Lori and Jody offer classes in both locations.

Anyway, after the class we hit the Summit and I did not go home with said patent shoes.

Which, brings me back to Target. Last night. When I stumbled upon these!

All About the Bag Tag

I played tennis in high school. My dad's advise was to stay quiet and not talk to my opponent. He said if I talked to them, I became to chummy and lost my competitive edge. I think with age and maturity that competitive edge has blossomed. I've been back into tennis for about 2 months now and have played on a USTA team in the evenings. I quickly learned that on the tennis courts you're nothing without a ~~cute outfit~~ bag tag (or 10). The bag tag is the mark of a winner.

Well chickadees, I'm sportin' a bag tag!!! Our team won our division and last night we played the finals to earn a place at the state championship. For those you of that are familiar with tennis and the scoring, Peggy and I played line 2. We won the first set 7-5, the second set went to a tie breaker-we lost 6-7, then we played a 10 point tie breaker to decide the game. We won the tie breaker 10-2, winning the match! All 3 lines were awesome giving our team the win.

Y'all, I'm feeling it today! Those ladies ran my fanny all over that court...it was a blast!! I have a LONG way to go and a lot to learn but am having so much fun. Here is a picture of the ladies from our team that played last night (there are 14 of us total and only 6 play each night) including our team member and great friend, Alicia , that cheered us on through it all.

We're headed to State!

Of course, throughout the match I used my Personalized Tennis Towel since I tend to ~~sweat buckets~~ glisten during play.

And since I'm high on our win, I'm thinking a sale is in order. Now, through the end of the month, tennis towels are 10% off!

The Raccoon is Mad

I love imagining the lovies as having little personalities of their own. I like to think of them sitting on the shelf in the chick studio surrounded by the the dark in the middle of the night having conversations and tea parties {I'm a dweeb. I'm ok with that}. So when I realized that I'd forgotten to introduce Mr. Raccoon to my chickadees, I could imagine him huffing off in disgust, feeling jealous of Mr. Cow's debut. Well, Raccoon, today's your day. It is your turn to shine. You're super cute and the spotlight is all yours.

Obviously, this little man is attached to his Raccoon lovie.

We've put some serious miles on the monogrammed sedan in the last few months, burning up I-20 between the Georgia state line and Birmingham. It's no secret I have a major crush on this little man....

I mean really, look at those cheeks! They get yummier and yummier by the week. It is really hard to do anything productive whilst in his presence. Pretty much all I desire to do is this....

Seriously? Shut up! Look at that sweet little face. Sleeping on my shoulder. I lap it up. Like a pathetic puppy. I am glue in Parker's hands. If only he knew.

Because I need ~~a tax write off~~ pictures of Monogram Chick products, we do have to get a little work done while in the 'ham. It is a good thing Master P is such a great little model. And it is a really great thing that he adores his lovies. Kiki has officially started a collection. I believe this 12 week old already has 3 personalized lovies.

The monkey has long been one of my favorite of the lovies.

However, I am having to make room in my heart for the cow. Mr. Cow is brand new to Monogram Chick, and he is fitting in quite nicely with our other security blankets. Seriously, could this newbie be any cuter?

Actually, yes. Yes. He can be cuter. In the pudgey, sleeping arms of this fella.

Which is your favorite lovie, cause I'm having a hard time deciding. I'm not having a hard time deciding when I'll see the little mister again....just 8 more days!

Preppy Project Unveiled! The Conclusion...

Ok bloggettes, I see I got only one comment from my last post :( (so sad)!

But anywhoooo :)

Here is the finished project, it is the valence for "Master P", our nephew, Parker's new room. It was super simple to assemble because we had Lowes cut the wood to the right size for us and then all we had to do was assemble it with some screws. The ladies (MonogramChick and Kiki) covered it with batting and fabric then attached the "piece de la resitance"..... the monogram! Everything looks better with a monogram right?? The monogrammed "button" is a round piece of styrofoam from Michael's covered with more batting & fabric on which MonogramChick had done her thing. Well, I hope everyone likes it!

Preppy Project Almost Forgotten... But Now Resurfaces!!

Dr. Chick here.... WARNING: This post will not have the usual wit and polish that most of you are used to from the MonogramChick. I am working on arranging my photos and just ran across this set of preppy goodness on my photo card ;).

Ok, fellow bloggers this was one of those surprise preppy projects that I became "invited to help with" when visiting Kiki and Coco before the birth of Master P!

Well, I must admit I do enjoy light construction, but this is a bit outside of my normal line of work...

So here are the collecting the goods photos... Can anyone guess what the final product will be??

We're car people. I like cars and planning the next car I'll get, I come by it honestly...I'm from a long line of car junkies including my pops and my dad. A common conversation between Dr. Chick and I as we cruise the streets is "I like that car" or "that's a sweet car", etc. Our eyes usually veer towards the foreign models but there are few domestics that get props among us. One thing we agree on is that the fewer the 'after market' additions the better. This weekend the hubs and I were over in Atlanta and came across this beauty:

Y'all know we love us some cosmetic bags here at Monogram Chick and we've added to our floral cosmetic bag collection. I am so excited about the newest bag!

Introducing the Silver Floral Cosmetic Bag. Isn't it great?! I've been sporting this cosmetic bag in my purse for the last few days and I lurve it. I chose light aqua for my monogram but pink, black, lilac or even silver would look terrific.

And, since I'm sharing, I thought I'd share what I keep in my csmetic bag. Awhile ago there was a "whats in your purse" blog post going around. One of those where you dump the contents of your purse (before cleaning it out) and share with the world what you schlep around each day. So here is a Monogram Chick version of that post..."What's in your cosmetic bag?".

I've always kept a little bag in my purse with the essentials for my life. Lately, it is the silver cosmetic bag filled with the following goodies:

Hand Sanitizer: can't go anwhere without it.

Advil: for the times I don't have my caffeine fix
Nail File: glass nail files rock!
Hair Clip: for the times I'm fed up with the hair
