Why I'm MIA and HELP!!

So for the past few weeks (as I mentioned) we are knee deep in orthodontic office decisions. One of which is our reception area. As resident chick in our partnership I get to decorate this space that will be the first impression for all of our patients (with some help, of course) and I'm need some feedback from some my fabulous chickadees.

What have you seen that you really like in your orthodontist's or dentist's office that we simply must include in ours? I'm calling for your help--we are opening in a few short weeks and I feel the weight of the reception room on my shoulders--dear blog friends please help me!

PS-Check out the progress....sheetrock is up & trim goes up this week.

My husband is a dentist and I feel your pain...although we have to wait until his Dad retires to gain "all control" the waiting room is huge me! I would make sure there are things to keep all kind of patients occupied. Magazines for the moms and maybe some entertainment for the kids who will be coming in. Make it cozy and inviting. Good Luck!

Our ortho has two tv's, but no video games like the pediatric dentist (thank goodness!) His office is in an old house, so the waiting rooms are one bigger room and a smaller foyer with the reception desk at the end. He's big on hiking, etc. so it's decorated with maps of the Appalachian trail, a big stuffed bear (I think I have a picture of Josh with the bear the day he got his braces off).

But mostly LOTS of good, up to date magazines and plenty of places to sit. I actually like the grocery store magazines, like Women's Day, etc. that have short little articles. I hate getting started on something good and having to put it down and leave! 3 of 4 kids had braces, starting in 2000 through 2008....so I've spent a little time in an ortho's office!

Good luck...you're not far from me. I'm in Marietta, but we went to Hickory Flat once a month for years because we loved Dr. Russell

I am also the wife of a dentist & my suggestion would be to get some very comfy furniture in the waiting room! We also have a tv & lots of magazines. Most of the girly ones come from me because I noticed his supply was rather "boring" so I started sending mine as soon as I'm finished reading them. Good luck!!

A fabulous receptionist for one! Someone who dresses exceptionally and can handle anything.
Also, comfortable couches to sit on for the parents who have to wait forever for their children's orthodontical procedures.

Some of our closest friends are dentists. There dental practice is Great Oaks Dental in Pickens, SC. There should be some pics on their website. I remember the difficult time they had when they built the new practice a few years ago. They managed to find some great decorative pieces at places like Stein Mart, World Market, etc and they found a couple of leather chairs at Target that have worked great when used with a higher end couch. Their artwork is by area artists that is available for purchase.

I've sent you a few emails about the mug I won from The Design Girl back in August. Did you get them?

Well, I have to be honest and say that I get nervous every time I go to the dentist - I have no idea why. Anyway, my doc has the coziest little office and waiting area. It feels like a house. It is done in darker colors (hunter green, mulberry, gold) and it is so cozy. Even in the exam area she has floor to ceiling curtains with deocrative tie backs with lots of wood throughout. It makes it less intimidating and clinical. good luck!

My dentist's office has a leather recliner. I LOVE IT! It really is comfy and although I have never reclined in it, I have seen people reclined, and they look so relaxed. I would definitely put in a child's area with toys/books/etc, and I also really appreciate any doctor's office that has hand sanitizer in the waiting area. :) Hope this helps!

Hi! I work for an orthodontist in Houston, Texas and we are currently building a new office as well. I will say that our patients absolutely love the video games they can play while they wait. We have also decided to decorate our waiting area much like a room from Pottery Barn - not too formal but not like a pedo office either. The parents seem to like our coffee bar and Wifi area. The bar has coffee, teas, and hot chocolate and there is a bar with stools with free Wifi so they can work while waiting for their child to have their appointment. Good luck!!
