You Asked, I Answered (Part 1)

What fun! I loved reading through the creative questions y'all asked. Thanks so much for asking questions and participating! This was really so much fun for me. I have decided that rather than bore you with all the answers in one long post I'll break them up over the next couple of days. Here is the first installment...

How did you get your title design at the top of your blog? I think it's so cute!
The title design is kind of a mesh of different things. The inspiration is my logo for Monogram Chick and the header for my website. I had a plain white header with the pink ribbon and chick in the flower with the wording underneath until Summer gave my blog a little sprucing up. She turned it the header green and gave my blog the matching dots from my website. I love it too!

Where did you go to college and how did you meet your husband?
My husband and I both went to Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. We met during my first weekend at college (he is a year older than me) when my roommate and I went out with a bunch of random people to see a movie (Conspiracy Theory). We were friends first and then started dating in November 1997!

When and why did you decide to start a darling monogram shop??
I taught middle school science for 4 years and decided I needed a creative outlet and change in my life. I wanted flexibility with my schedule since Dr. Monogram Chick did not work on Fridays and we liked to travel. Monogram Chick actually started as a stationery business and has blossomed into what you see today!

What is YOUR favorite product in your line? That is a hard question since I build my products based on things that I like and think others will like too. I love the kitchen towels and the preppy travel mugs but I also love the address stamps and zippered totes (mine is chocolate with an aqua Victorian monogram).

What was the last movie you saw in the theatre?
My friend, Brooke, and I saw “The Women”. But I have many more movies that I’d like to see on my list. Since we live in Iowa and the winters are horrible we tend to go to a lot of movies during the snowy months since we can’t have lovely dinners on the patio.

Why did you start blogging?
We moved from Georgia to the Midwest for my husband’s residency and it was an easy way to keep in touch with family and friends back home, now it is an addiction!

Where do you see your blog in 1 year?
In 1 year, I see my blog continuing to offer giveaways and highlight the products on MonogramChick.com while continuing to let people know a little more about me and my life.

Describe your all time, all way, I want to shake my booty--I look hot outfit...describe it so we feel like we are wearing it!
I’m pretty simple & classic in my style, I love my Joe’s jeans and a fitted black turtleneck with black BCBG wedges with a great pair earrings. Of course, any great outfit is highlighted with great makeup. I love Bare Escentuals and Laura Mercier.

What do you miss most about Georgia??
Wow! I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one thing…I miss being so close to my family, the warmer weather, PUBLIX, sweet tea, my friends, SEC football, the fabulous shopping, southern hospitality, the back porch that spans the length of our home where Dr. M.C. and I would sit almost every night.

How long have you been married?
We married in June of 2004, so we have been married a little over 4 years. We dated for 7 years before we got married so we have been together for 11 years! My husband is my best friend, I love him more and more every day!

Where are you from originally? I was born in Tennessee. When I was 2 my parents moved to Florida. I lived there until I headed to Alabama for college. I lived in B’ham for 7 years and then moved to my husband’s home town in Georgia (which I’ve adopted as my hometown). We lived in Georgia for 3 years until we moved to Iowa. We will go home to Georgia in June (8 months and counting!)

What was your major in college?
I was an Education major in college. If I had it to do over again, I would have done something else, business or graphic design?

How much is that darling monogrammed recipe box? (that one is more for me! :)) The recipe box is $24.50, I think you need it! :)

I think we've been crossing paths! I was born in Florida and moved to Georgia when I was 7. And I can't imagine living anywhere else. (Though sometimes I'd like to!)

Thanks for the insights into the woman behind the design :-)

Loved reading all your responses too! I think when I move to be with Nick in St. Louis after the wedding I may miss Publix the most here in Florida (other than my momma and friends of course!).

man! have you moved around!

i just did a similar thing on my blog - a q&a feature. it's a good way to get to know someone better w/o having to backtrack into their blog everytime you need an answer :)

Loved your blog today. One of my dearest friends has a daughter at Samford!! And yes - you must get back to GEORGIA - nothing like the South! Re: Mad Men... I find it hard to believe that they would have Don and Betty divorce in this show since they are such a large part of it... She has become so "emotionless" - kind of like the Stepford Wife Wronged...haha...and yes, the Glenn thing is a little weird for me. I grew up in the 60's... I am trying to figure out where that fits in...I thought that final scene with Don looking out the window of the plane and that song playing (Telstar by the way) was powerful for some reason. So glad I have a BF who watches it! Have a great day!

Thanks for visiting my blog!!! I am a monogram maniac. Where do Y'all live in Iowa? I don't know if you read some of my blog, but my husband works for the Atlanta Braves and we were in Burlington, Iowa a couple of summers for baseball. I do live in TX(north of San Antonio) now because my husband is from here but I am from South Carolina and really miss The South. People here think this is The South but it's not. Luckily the past few summers we have spent time in Mississippi for baseball. I enjoy every minute of it. I will be sure to visit you again!

I was waiting until I had an extended period of time to read this post... and boy am I glad I did! Joe's Jeans (honey style is the perfect style for me) with a black turtleneck is one of my faves too.. it really is a shame we don't live next door to each other!! And, I know you are dying to get back The South but The Midwest is glad to have you while you're here!! xoxo

I love that you said you missed Publix! In my college town there was no Publix (no decent grocer store for that matter) and I seriously could not live in that town for that very reason. I absolutely love Publix. Wal Mart is for things like toothpaste ... not groceries! Lol :)

This is so great! Learned so much more about you! I hope people bought lots of stuff after my feature! Let me know! xo

I just found your blog and I love it! My husband and I graduated from Samford also. We are born and bred southerners, but moved to the midwest 2 years ago for his job. I miss all the things you listed about home also - publix, sweet tea, good weather. I'm getting sad just thinking about it with the winter about to roll in!
Anyway, just wanted you to know I love your blog and all your beautiful work! No one even knows what monograms are here, so I make sure my little girl is monogrammed as often as I can :)
